Woodworking is the art of making items from wood which includes cabinet making, wood carving, joinery, carpentry, and woodturning.
It needs a lot of practice and patience to master this tough skill.
A woodworker from Auckland New Zealand went viral for the unique dressers he creates. He has learned a one-of-a-kind furniture-making style. His daughter shared Henk’s creations with fellow woodworkers in their Facebook group.
People were amazed to see his crafts as the dressers he has created look like they have been broken but they are actually not. After getting a lot of appreciation, his daughter Linda created a Facebook page which is dedicated to showcasing the furniture he makes.
Bored Panda asked Henk about his style and he told: “I describe my style of furniture as broken and weird. I like making weird furniture, something that you don’t see in a shop.”
He takes inspiration from fairy tales and says that all of his creations come solely from his “twisted brain.”
“It’s hard to say how long each piece takes me. It’s unset times during the week and it could easily be 80-100 hours. Sometimes details or angles don’t work and I have to start again. I use recycled New Zealand pine, mostly, but if I can get my hands on some Rimu, I will also use that.”
Henk was a joiner/cabinet maker before the retirement. “I have been woodworking for 53 years. Now it is just my hobby and passion,” he says.
“I started creating them for the pure love of it without the intention of selling them. But when I run out of space, there will be an eBay auction or two. Everything is for sale… except for my wife,” he said jokingly.
“I was absolutely blown away at how this has gone viral, just a post my daughter put up on a page to share. I never expected ANYTHING like this.”
