Losing your soulmate is one of the hardest things to deal with. The pain you feel is immeasurable, it consumes your whole being and leaves your life in tatters.
An Imgur user recently shared his bittersweet discovery online, and it’s a powerful tale of love and loss.
In February 2016, a beloved husband and father by the names of Mason passed away at the age of 51 from a ruptured artery. By that time, his lovely wife Becca had ventured into metal engraving and needed a space on which to work. Being the skilled carpenter he was, her husband happily built a workbench just for her. How sweet!
A few months after his untimely death, Becca and Mason’s grieving son noticed that one of the legs on the work bench was broken. He immediately took it upon himself to fix it, because he knew how much his mom Becca adored it. So he took the legs off to reinforce and secure them with bolts. It was a unique technique his father taught him. The shocking discovery.

When he flipped over the workbench, he noticed something unusual. There was something scribbled on the underside of the bench — two paragraphs handwritten in a red marker. Had he not taken Mom’s bench apart, who knows when it would have been discovered.
Mason’s son went ahead and read the scribbled words on the work bench. He has blown away when he realized what the message was about. It was a heartfelt love message from his late father Mason to his mom Becca.
Losing his dad was very devastating for him and the entire family. He had lost his mentor, the one person that took him under his care and loved him so dearly and unconditionally, despite the fact that he was not his biological father. The death of his dad truly broke his heart. Everything changed for him, life was never the same after that. It was a trying moment for the whole family. They had lost a precious jewel that would never be replaced.

He wrote on Imgur, “My dad passed away on February 26th at the age of 51 from a ruptured artery, he made this workbench for my mom, Becca, when she got into metal engraving.” He further added, “He was technically my step dad, but being as how I’ve never met my biological father, he was the only and best father I had,”

When Mason was still alive, he had taught his son everything he knew about carpentry, so he knew exactly how to fix the broken workbench for his mom. That’s when he removed the legs, flipped it over and noticed a handwritten inscription underneath the top of the bench. It was a secret note from his father to his mother. He had written it before he passed away, but no one knows when exactly he wrote it.
Here it goes:
“I love you, Becca. Whatever day this is, I hope it’s a good one. God truly answered my prayers the day he gave me you. I know that these days are the best I’ll ever have, and I’m glad you’re in them. I’m not sure if you’ll ever see this, but if you do, just know that I love you very much. If there is one thing want in life, it is to be as good to you as you are to me. If I can do that, I’ll be the happiest man alive. I love you, beautiful wife. — Mason”

After finding his dad’s secret message, he could not wait to show it to his mom. When she saw it, Becca was extremely hysterical, tears of joy run down her cheeks as she read the inscription. The whole family was happy, memories of Mason came back to them in full swing. It was an emotional and bittersweet discovery. In that moment, they missed him even more. They wished he was still around.
In an effort to preserve the inscription, Mason’s son removed the two planks from the center and mounted them in a frame. How thoughtful!
