A funeral worker has been fired after he took a selfie with Diego Maradona’s body.
Diego Molina is now facing the wrath of Argentina after he posed for a photo with his one hand giving a thumbs up while the other was placed on the Argentina soccer legend’s head.
According to reports, Molina was one of the workers hired to prepare Maradona’s corpse for a private open-coffin wake.
Since the photo was shared online, Molina has received death threats from angry fans while others have called for him to be stripped of his citizenship.
One furious fan who saw the photo wrote: “I want this fat baldie who took a picture of himself by Diego’s body dead. I want him dead. DEAD.”
Another wrote: “He should be stripped of his Argentinian citizenship. You don’t do something like this. Complete lack of respect.”
The owners of the funeral company Sepelios Pinier confirmed that they fired Molina.
Maradona’s attorney Matias Morla revealed the worker’s name on social media, along with a photo of him.
“This is Diego Molina, the author of the photo taken beside Maradona’s coffin,” Morla wrote. “He’s Pinier’s head of burials. Diego Molina is the swine that took the picture of himself alongside Maradona.
“For the memory of my friend I am not going to rest until he pays for this aberration.”
Maradona passed away at aged 60 due to heart failure. The Argentine Football Association confirmed his death and shared a short message on Twitter.
“The Argentine Football Association, through its President Claudio Tapia, expresses its deepest sorrow for the death of our legend, Diego Armando Maradona. You will always be in our hearts,” it wrote.
