A spokesperson for a charity organization has been ostracized after publicly suggesting that only women can carry babies.
Following her online post, 45-year-old Lynsey McCarthy-Calvert was quickly targeted by transgender activists who called her out for her words and accused her of breaching diversity and equality principles.
After the backlash from the public, the charity worker was forced to step down from her position as the spokeswoman for Doula UK. The words also led her to lose her job as a birth coach.
While the organization didn’t oust Lynsey on the spot, they threatened to do so unless she removed her social media post, leading the woman to resign before they got the chance to fire her.
“I am angry and sad. I was effectively ostracized for saying I am a woman and so are my clients,” Lynsey said in an interview, suggesting that the organization failed to stand up for her rights as a woman.
“I have been very disappointed by Doula UK’s response. The leadership are paralyzed by not wanting to upset transgender rights activists. They have fallen over themselves to acquiesce to their demands.”
The controversy follows shortly after Always announced they would be removing the ‘Venus’ symbol from their sanitary napkins because napkins can be used by everyone and shortly after Flora ceased to advertise on Mumsnet due to the alleged ‘transphobic’ activity on the site.
“I am not a ‘cervix owner’ I am not a ‘menstruator’ I am not a ‘feeling.’ I am not defined by wearing a dress and lipstick. I am a woman: an adult human female,” Lynsey responded to the backlash.
“Women birth all the people, make up half the population, but less than a third of the seats in the House of Commons are occupied by us,” she added.
