A 98-year-old World War II spy has received the Congressional Gold Medal on Tuesday.
Former World War II spy, Patricia Warner Joined WWII Spy Ring after her husband died in combat in 1942.
She decided to take revenge and she joined WWII Spy Ring.
“My husband was killed in the war and I wanted to do something useful,” Warner said, according to WBZ.
She was sent to Spain to spy, obtain information and report back.
She collaborated with the French resistance to help American pilots escape Nazi-occupied France.
“Somehow, I was in all of that, but I wasn’t really in any danger. I don’t want to take any credit for it”.
“I didn’t feel I was in great danger at every moment, but I knew the Germans had my number,” she said.
She has now received the Congressional Gold Medal for her services.
Rep. Katherine Clark honored the former World War II spy with a Congressional Gold Medal on Tuesday.
“We’d like to present to you a Congressional Gold Medal that we made for you to thank you for your service,” Clark said at the Lincoln Local Library in her Massachusetts district while honoring Warner.
“It means a lot. I don’t think anyone ever thanked me, and I never thought I needed thanking. But to see this now is very touching, and I’m very grateful”, Warner said.
