The British Hip-Hop artist rapper Wretch 32 has proclaimed that there has been “no progression” in regaining law and order against police brutality with racist undertone, citing the incident in which his very own father was Tasered by the police officers at his home situated in North London.
The rapper, whose real name is Jermaine Scott Sinclair, has used his social media platform during recent days, posting a 30-second-long video clip in which it shows the police body-cam footage of the said operation being carried out at his father’s home. The captions, same in each post, are as follows: “This is how the police think they can treat a 62 year old black man in Tottenham but this 1 happens to be my dad #Nojusticenopeace”.

The police footage starts with them entering the premises, with a woman heard saying: “I’m not resisting, don’t touch me, social distancing, please don’t touch me.point 268 |
” An officer then heard saying the trigger warnings: “Police officer with a Taser.point 81 | Stay where you are.point 97 | ” Then, unseen from the angle of the camera as to the exact causalities, a man is seen tumbling down the stair.point 193 | While the police officer calls for calm, the woman can be heard yelling: “They’ve Tasered him.point 286 |
” Coming out on national television, Wretch 32 claimed the video footage is the exact live evidence that police brutality is a matter to be apprehended with and taken into deep social debate even in the UK.point 176 | 1
“I’ve grown up in a household with my dad and uncle and I’ve watched them fight against police brutality my whole life,” he said in the interview, “I’m 35 now and we’re still here again today and I now have to have the same conversations that my dad and my uncle and my grandparents and parents had with me when I was a child.point 481 |
That means there’s no progression.point 36 | ” The father has said he is”lucky to be alive”.point 92 | “It seems to me at this moment in time we (black people) are being singled out and targeted,” he added.point 188 | 1
The Metropolitan Police have so far disputed the claims made by the rapper and his family, citing the fact that they entered the property “as part of a long running operation to tackle drugs supply.”
Their statement goes: “As officers entered the premises, a man came downstairs and started moving towards an officer suddenly.point 114 | He was ordered to remain where he was but continued towards officers who, after several warnings, deployed a Taser.point 211 |
The man was not arrested, but was assessed by the London Ambulance Service at the scene.point 73 | He did not require further medical treatment.point 112 | Officers from the North Area Command Unit have liaised with the family to discuss any concerns they have about the incident.point 216 |
