This couple who has been married for over 70 years died six hours part, just a couple of days after they were diagnosed with coronavirus.
The couple was being treated at a Wisconsin hospital.
Wilford Kepler (94) and his wife Mary (92) died on April 18, 2020, six hours apart from one another. This news was shared in their joint obituary.
Their beds were also placed together at the Froedtert hospital, and they were able to hold each other during their final days. The obituary further read that Mary before her death said that she was being taken cared for by Angels.
While both Wilford and Mary were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, only Mary died due to it.
According to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and hypertension were her secondary cause.
Wilford, on the other hand, had suffered a serious head injury on April 12, 2020, which was the primary cause of his death. Coronavirus was reported as the secondary cause.
On April 8, 2020, Mary was diagnosed with the virus, and the couple was in quarantine at their home. However, after Wilford’s head injury, the couple was admitted to the hospital, where he was also tested positive.
Natalie Lameka, their granddaughter, said that she is uncertain how they were exposed to the virus; however, they were still going to the groceries and running errands. She added that as much as the family wanted to help, the couple insisted on living their life.
The couple attended Richland Center High School, but Wilford could not complete his graduation as he was called for duty in World War II. According to their obituary, Mary used to write to him while he was at war, and when Wilford returned, the couple tied the knot in 1946.
Mary was the first woman to become the Vice President of the US Steel Supply, whereas Wilford had worked at Harnishfeger Corporation as a machinist for 35 years. Mary also earned her college degree at the age of 54 in 1981.
