I love yard sales, because it brings me back old memories about the time when I would pretend to be on a treasure hunt.
Usually, however, what you find in a yard sale is not worth a lot. This is understandable, since the owner is trying to get rid of his or her unwanted possessions at a cheap price. Since it’s used, the price is low.
And this particular family from New York probably didn’t have big plans when they spotted a small white bowl at a yard sale. It was priced for just $3, so they bought it and used the bowl as a decor for the kitchen.
Little did they know that this bowl would make them millionaires.

After years passed by, the family actually became curious about this bowl, because it was getting a lot of compliments by visitors of the house. So, they decided to have it professionally appraised.
The result was completely shocking.
When they flipped the bowl over, it turned out to be a thousand-year-old artifact, made during China’s Song Dynasty.

According to the experts from the Sotheby’s auction house, “Only one other bowl of the same form, size, and almost identical decoration is known; the piece in the British Museum London.”
The bowl was initially given a value of around $200,000 to $300,000. Eventually, though, the bowl was sold for a total of $2,225,000.
What a lucky buy!
Admittedly, this is a very rare incident, but who knows? You might actually come across something as valuable as this bowl next time you go to a yard sale.
