A young father has tragically passed away as he took his own life following a bitter break-up with his girlfriend and the mother of his child.
20-year-old Kieran Hubbard had been suffering from mental health problems after breaking up with his girlfriend.
While the young man’s consultant referred Kieran to a psychiatric unit following his suspicious visit to a motorway bridge, the healthcare experts overruled her decision and said the man could be visited at his home instead.
On the next day, the 20-year-old drove to a construction site where he was working on a renovation project and hanged himself on the premises.
Before taking his life, Kieran wrote a series of ‘Love you’ notes and messaged his father to tell him that he couldn’t go on living “paralyzed with an overwhelming sense of fear.”
“It sounds ridiculous to anyone who doesn’t suffer with mental health but I wouldn’t wish it on anyone,” he wrote.
“It completely takes over you mentally and physically. It’s like a complete state of trauma and you can’t speak, feel an urge to cry, too scared to be with anyone but not wanting to be alone, feeling lost about what to do or how to do it. Feeling in a daze and simultaneously being unaware but also aware of everything around you.
“You just want to stay in bed and escape but then you fear what other people are thinking if you don’t act normal, this continues until either you just give up through exhaustion or collapse and fall asleep.”
According to the reports, the young man’s family is disappointed with the system and professionals who were tossing Kieran from office to office without giving him proper help.
The family has also explained that the 20-year-old’s condition has spiraled out of control following his break-up with the mother of his child.
“I was concerned about him being in acute mental health crisis and I concluded he was suffering from a recurrent depressive disorder,” Kieran’s psychiatrist Dr Suraya Khan said.
“At that point he was suffering a current severe depressive episode and it was marked by recurrent suicidal thoughts.”
As for Kieran’s father, Kevin, he won’t be able to forget the last words his son told him before taking his life.
“When I got in the car and set off [to look for him], he did answer and he just said ‘I love you,’” Kevin said.
Rest in peace, Kieran.
