A young man’s dying wish was granted mere moments before he entered hospice care due to his terminal illness.
23-year-old Javier Rodriguez, who was diagnosed with a genetic condition known as familial dilated cardiomyopathy, had but one wish before entering hospice care following two heart transplants. All the young man wanted was to marry the love of his life and the mother of his baby girl.
“I love you,” the young man whispered to his partner, Crytstal Cuevas, whom he’d been with since high school.
Knowing that they had little time to act, the couple decided to come up with a makeshift venue at a Chicago hospital chapel and tie the knot.
While the ceremony was put together in a haste, there was no lack of emotions during the wedding. On the contrary, family and friends had broken into tears after witnessing the unconditional love that the young couple has for each other.
Following the wedding, Javier, who was given a few days to live at the time, and Crystal were allowed to go home in order to spend their final moments as a complete family together.
“He’s at peace with that,” the 23-year-old heartbroken woman said in an interview with Chicago Sun-Times.
While she feels happy about having the opportunity to marry her boyfriend and spend his final days in his presence, Crystal admitted that the wedding was very bittersweet.
“When I think of my daughter, that’s when it breaks me down,” she added.
Speaking of the tear-jerking moment the couple got married, the groom’s mum Ana Silva said:
“I just want my son to be happy. He’s marrying the love of his life, and they have a beautiful baby girl.”
