A young and active nurse who was dubbed a ‘true gem’ passed away from COVID-19 after contracting the novel coronavirus while working as a frontliner of the battle against the pandemic.
34-year-old Ken Lambatan was working on the frontlines at London’s St. George’s Hospital before succumbing to COVID-19.
According to the local reports, the news of the nurse’s death came just before the UK stood together for a minute of silence to respect fallen NHS workers and key workers who have fallen due to the pandemic.
Speaking of the hardworking nurse, who was described as “fit and active,” the hospital officials said Ken was popular both among the staff as well as the patients.
“Everyone at St George’s is deeply saddened by the death of Ken, one of our cardiac research nurses,” Principal Jenny Higham and Chief Executive Jacqueline Totterdell wrote in a joint statement.
“Ken was very popular with staff, and described as a ‘true gem’ by those that knew him well. He was dedicated to his role as a research nurse here at St George’s, and was as popular with his patients as he was with colleagues.
“Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues at this time.”
The man’s tragic death follows as dozens of hardworking healthcare workers in the country have succumbed to the killer virus while doing their best to save lives.
To pay their respects to the selfless heroes, the nation held a minute of silence all over the UK in honor of the fallen frontliners.
