By the time she was 15, Sophie had already started dyeing her hair to preserve her dark brown color and hide all signs of grey hair.

“I continued to pull the greys out as more appeared over the next couple of years, until I started dying my hair around 15,” the girl told Daily Mail Australia.

In the following years, Sophie went full grey and she had to dye her hair every month to keep grey strands at bay.

Fortunately, however, Sophie didn’t let her silver strands affect her confidence and she decided to fully embrace her natural color by the time she was 25. While she is still not sure why her hair started turning grey so soon, she now no longer lets her natural hair color dictate her life.

“Both my parents had a significant amount of grey by their early forties, but no one else had nearly as much grey early on as I do,” Sophie says.

“Perhaps that combination of genes meant that I was destined to go grey so young! My mum also ditched the dye in her mid-forties so I did see her embrace her silvers relatively early on.”

As the 27-year-old added, she experimented with color a lot after first starting to dye her hair at the age of 15.

“It never occurred to me that I could leave my natural color, but that may have been because I was so young and had been dying it for so long,” she revealed.

“If anything, my confidence was lower while I was dying my hair because I felt like I had to hide something so natural about myself.”

After fully accepting her natural color, Sophie feels more confident than ever before. She also decided to show off her silver locks on her wedding day back in 2019.

“Stepping outside of the mold in that way has given me the confidence to do the same in other areas of my life, and I’m so happy that I took that first step,” she added.

“I’ve had so many conversations with people in their twenties who also have grey hairs but feel as though they have to cover them up in order to not be seen as ‘old’ or letting themselves go.point 310 |

Turning grey early is far more common than most people realize, and would become apparent if more people ditched the dye.point 101 | point 104 | 1
