Coming from a small town called Workington, in Cumbria, England, Callie Rogers was just a simple girl at first.
In 2003, her life completely changed when she won 1.8 million pounds on the lottery, thus becoming the youngest ever lottery winner in Britain, at age 16. But even with such a huge amount, Callie’s life did not magically become any easier.
Being at a young age, with almost no experience of real life, Callie ended up wasting the entire sum of lavish cars and luxurious items.
To top that, a large number of people took advantage of her young age and innocence to borrow huge sums of money which they never returned.
This is the main reason why Ms Rogers wants the age limit for lottery winner to be 18. According to her, after the lottery win, she immediately changed from being a simple teenager to a rich adult, with having little to no clue on how to navigate the difficult road that is life.
Today, Callie Rogers earns a meagre 12000 pounds a year, but even then she is not let down. In fact, she is more happy than ever because of the peaceful life she carries on.
Right after her enormous win, Rogers moved into a huge bungalow with the father of her two children, Nicky Lawson.
Everything seemed to be going well for her when suddenly she started meeting with a lot of shady characters who exploited her at every turn they could get.
Knowing about her new found wealth, people posed as her friends and borrowed large sums of money, promising to give it back, which they did not.
Now, burdened with the cruel knowledge, she understands that she had a lot of fake friends who only wanted to get money from her. Even her relationship fell apart after a few years, which further led her into a dark state of mind.
The lottery company Camelot has said that it tried to suggest a financial plan to Rogers but to no avail. It even said that it will try and help her in any way she wants.
