YouTube has begun banning robot fight videos after the introduction of the new algorithm that detects them as animal cruelty.
The algorithm malfunction went viral after dozens of robot enthusiasts received messages that accused them of sharing videos in which animals are forced to fight.
The main suspect behind comparing robot fights to cockfights and dog fights is the platform’s new algorithm that upset robot-bashing lovers are asking YouTube to fix immediately.
“I do not support animal cruelty in the slightest, but what’s happening is that it’s false flagged robots smashing each other as animals smashing each other,” Angus aka Maker’s Muse wrote in his post.
“I’m not sure how it’s happened but there’s clearly no manual review.”
Another robot enthusiast accused the mistake of serving as a “nail in the coffin” for the robot fighting industry and warned that the hobby could be wiped out if the issue is not taken care of soon.
“We’re not sure what’s happened, or why it’s started to do this. It needs to be fixed as quickly as possible. The YouTube robot community doesn’t need this right now with robot games being shelved, robot wars being cancelled,” World of Woodrow wrote.
“There’s so much crap happening at the minute that this is sort of a nail to a coffin that doesn’t need nailing.”
While YouTube promises to review each flagged video on a case-by-case basis, the high volume of flagged videos might result in human errors.
“With the massive volume of videos on our site, sometimes we make the wrong call,” the video platform told Mail Online.
“When it’s brought to our attention that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it. We also offer uploaders the ability to appeal removals and we will re-review the content.”
