Brooke Houts, a famous YouTuber, has come under fire after she accidentally uploaded a video that shows her spitting and hitting her dog.
In the disturbing video, her dog Sphinx can be seen jumping at her while she was filming a video with him. But then she hit the dog and shouted ‘No!’ before pinning the pooch to the floor when he tried to jump again.
Shocked viewers believe she spat on Sphinx but Houts denied this claim.
The 20-year-old issued a statement saying she is “not a dog abuser or animal abuser in any way, shape or form.” But as soon as the video went viral, it caught the attention of LAPD’s Animal Cruelty Task Force.
“LAPD is aware of this incident,” a spokesperson for the police department said to BuzzFeed News. “Animal Cruelty is looking into this, and there is an open investigation.”
The YouTuber released a statement via Notes to answer to the backlash, apologizing to people who are ‘negatively affected’ by the video.
“To everyone who has been commenting on my social media as of recently:
“Anything I say isn’t going to make those who believe I’m a bad person stop believing that, and I’m aware of this. I apologize to anyone who has been affected negatively by the footage.”
She added: “I want to clarify that I am NOT a dog abuser or animal abuser in any way, shape or form. Anyone who has witnessed or heard true animal abuse will be able to clearly see that.”
Houtz also described how she spoils her dog, ordering toys for him and giving him treats. “In my heart and from the words of the people that spend the most time with me, I know that I am a great dog mom.
“This does not make my actions in the footage okay, but I’m just explaining what my day-to-day life is really like, whether you believe me or not.”
