A team of YouTubers launched an admirable move to tackle climate change.
The environmentally responsible content creators started an initiative called Team Trees and within just 2 months, they had planted above 20 million trees.
The movement was started by YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast on the platform, after he reached 20 million subscribers in May 2019.
He asked his fans for ideas to mark his achievement. Turned out, MrBeast has some really enlightened subscribers who tasked him with making the earth greener.
Finally, this October, the YouTubers announced their plan to realize their idea.
They asked their subscribers, who amount to hundreds of millions, to donate to the charity Arbor Days Foundation which plants trees in the US.
To make the idea a reality, MrBeast partnered up with other YouTube celebrities including Jacksepticeye, Mark Rober and Ninja.
This was how the Team Trees movement started, just two months back.
Help came in pouring from a number of channels. Even Elon Musk donated $1 million to the cause and also changed his Twitter alias to Treelon Musk.
The CEO of Shopify, Tobi Lutke, celebrated his 1 million customer mark by donating $1 million.
YouTube also took the initiative seriously with CEO Susan Wojcicki donating $200,000 to the cause and making a video with Rober to spread awareness about the cause.
Another $150,000 donation came from Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter.
Obviously, these were not the only donations received by the cause. A lot of not-so-rich people also put their effort to raise a total of $20 million.
Team Trees posted on their official Twitter account: “Twenty million trees – in less than two months – is an incredible accomplishment and it belongs to all of us.
“Whether you donated, created content, or simply told your friends about #TeamTrees, this win is yours.
“Remember this feeling when you have a goal that people tell you isn’t realistic. Remember this when you’re in need of some hope.
“Remember that #TeamTrees started from zero. Right now, celebrate! 20 million more trees will live on the earth because of us, #TeamTrees. @arbordayfoundation will plant and care for them.
“Each of those trees is a step forward. If you’re just hearing about #TeamTrees now, as we hit 20 million, you’re not too late to join the team. $1 plants one tree at TeamTrees.org.
“Let’s keep going!”
Replaced!
