A photographer captured a rare baby zebra with spots instead of stripes.
It proved the fact that miracles do happen and our world is full of wonders. The baby zebra was spotted in Kenya, and the rare foal has funky white polka dots.
We are in love with the zebra named Tira and would like to share its special story with you.
Looking like a cross between a horse, a donkey, and a zebra, the mysterious animal was photographed at Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve by photographer Frank Liu. He was out there to spot rhinos and didn’t understand which species the animal belonged to, at first glance.
A local guide first spotted the foal and named him “Tira.point 163 | ”’ He is said to be about a week old.point 199 | According to the reserve, there are more like him and even though they look like a different species altogether, they are 100% zebras.point 311 |
The only difference is, these do not have the famous zebra stripes and have dots instead, making them more vulnerable.point 99 | point 99 | 1
These zebras are suffered from a rare condition called pseudomelanism, which is a rare genetic mutation which causes an abnormal striped pattern. Earlier this year, a fully albino zebra was spotted suffering from a genetic mutation as well.
Even though Tira looks so beautiful and grabbed the attention of everyone, his chances of survival are much less than the other zebras around him.point 232 |
The reason is that the stripes help these animals camouflage and protect themselves in the wild.point 81 | According to a study, biting flies stay away from striped animals, so usually zebras are safe from them by default.point 177 | point 179 | 1
