High fashion is never economical.
There are even cases of people selling their body organs on the black market to be able to afford something from a known designer.
However, in an interesting turn of events, the latest shoes from Balenciaga, the Zen trainers, are strikingly similar to a pair of Lonsdale shoes.
It means, you can have the $550 designer shoes from another source for as low as $32.6 and the only difference will be the name and logo on them.
The Zen trainers, crafted out of 100 per cent polyurethane and made in China, boast “black ground laces” and “round toe.”
On the other side, the trainers from Lonsdale, known as Benn Mens, claim having a “padded ankle” and “durable grip.” These shoes also have a leather upper sole and to top all that off, they just cost above $30.
After people noticed the similarity in the two pairs, someone joked at a social media platform: “When you have to put in work at Power League at 3, tarmac some drive ways at 5, then hit a Shoreditch fashion show at.”
Another user said: “I see Balenciaga are continuing with their strategy of ‘taking weird & iconic British culture and selling it for hundreds of £.’
Someone took screenshots of the shoes listed for sale on Barneys New York Website and shared them on social media. The “creation” was priced at a hefty $545.
It is indeed not the first time that Balenciaga has done something like this. Earlier, they “created” the red, square-toe leather mules that looked exactly the same as the packaging McDonald’s uses for its fries.
McDonald’s people from Sweden joined the joke with the people at the Stockholm Fashion Week.
They shared a picture of their version of the shoes, captioning it: “Om vi får 103042 likes släpper vi dessa påriktigt,” which means in English: “If we get 103042 likes we release these for real.”
